New Regulation on Marriages in Turkey

The General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs of the Turkish Ministry of Interior has issued a new regulation directed at marriage registries.

What's Changed? Now, foreigners wishing to marry Turkish citizens are required to have legal residency status in the country. This measure is aimed at preventing the acquisition of Turkish citizenship through sham marriages.

What is Required? To register a marriage, a foreigner must provide:

A valid passport or a document substituting a passport.
Proof of legal residency in Turkey (Residence permit).
This regulation is intended to combat illegal migration and ensure public order.
